2011 Canada: 25 Cents Caribou
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Quality — Grade: MS-62

Coin Description

This 2011 25-cent coin belongs to the long line of caribou 25-cent coins, an emblematic design introduced in 1937 and which constitutes the standard motif for Canadian 25-cent coins. After the Olympic years (2007-2010) where the caribou temporarily gave way to various commemorations, it has been definitively back on circulation coins since 2010. The proposed specimen, graded MS-62, offers a very good state of preservation for this common type of coin.

The Obverse (Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II)

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, an effigy used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023. In accordance with coins from this era, the obverse is adorned with the maple leaf 🍁 at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legend "ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA" surrounds the royal bust, with the date "2011". For an MS-62 grade, the mint luster is present, covering most of the surface, but may be slightly interrupted in some areas, with a few minor contact marks visible to the naked eye on the high points of the relief.

The Reverse (Caribou)

The reverse features the classic caribou design, created by Emanuel Hahn and used since 1937. The animal's head, an emblematic symbol of Canadian currency, is surrounded by the inscription "CANADA", the denomination "25 CENTS" and the year "2011". In MS-62, the details of the antlers and fur are very sharp and the strike is complete, despite very slight handling marks on the periphery.
