2009 Canada: 25 cents Women's Hockey (Vancouver 2010) - Colored Version
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Quality — Grade: MS-63 CHOICE

Coin Description

This commemorative 25-cent coin was issued on November 17, 2009, by the Royal Canadian Mint to celebrate the Canadian women's hockey team's gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Games . This historic achievement was ranked as the second greatest moment for Canada at the Winter Olympics in an online vote held by the Royal Canadian Mint and the Canadian Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium . Out of a total mintage of 22,000,000 coins in circulation, only 3,000,000 were produced in a colored version, randomly inserted into rolls of circulating coins . The offered coin, graded MS-63 Choice, boasts remarkable preservation and superior visual appeal.

The Obverse (Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II)

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, an effigy used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023 . In keeping with commemorative coins of that period, the obverse is adorned with the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics logo . The legend "ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA" surrounds the royal bust, along with the date "2009". For an MS-63 Choice grade, the mint luster is well-present, intense, and uniform over almost the entire surface, with a nice "cartwheel" effect. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.

The Reverse (Hockey Players Celebrating Victory)

The reverse, designed by Burlington, Ontario artist Jason Bouwman , illustrates a moment of pure joy: two hockey players raising their arms in victory, celebrating their gold medal . A stylized maple leaf serves as a backdrop to this touching scene . The special feature of this version lies in the application of red color to the maple leaf, honoring Canada's national emblem . The inscriptions " WOMEN'S HOCKEY FÉMININ ", the year " 2002 ", and the Canadian Olympic Committee logo complete the reverse . In MS-63 Choice, the color is perfectly preserved, without flaking, and all details of the players are remarkably sharp.
