Vancouver Series 2010 — MS-65 (Gem) Quality

Description of the room

This 25-cent coin celebrates the dynamic and competitive spirit of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Snowboarding, one of the Games' most spectacular disciplines, is immortalized here in a conservation gem . Although the circulation mintage is over 22 million, an MS-65 example is a coin that has been spared major handling marks, retaining the original brilliance intended by the Royal Canadian Mint.

The Reverse Pattern

The design, created by artist Glenn Green, captures a snowboarder in mid-air, symbolizing freedom and agility. In the background, a stylized maple leaf encircles the official Games logo (the Ilanaaq). Printed in MS-65 grade, the athlete and their equipment are rendered in crisp detail, providing a striking visual contrast against the satin fields.

The Obverse

The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. At this grade, the luster is bright and uninterrupted, highlighting the fine details of the royal portrait against a clean, brilliant surface.

Quality and Grade MS-65 (Gem)

The MS-65 grade designates a Gem quality coin:

  • Chandelier: A striking, original chandelier that is bright and uniform throughout the room.

  • Surface: Some minor contact marks may be present, but they are discreet and do not detract from the overall visual appeal.

  • Strike: A high-quality strike that does justice to Glenn Green's intricate design.

  • Visual appeal: Very high. The piece has a "fresh roll" appearance sought after by collectors.
