Vancouver Series 2010 — MS-68 Quality (Superb +)

Description of the room

This 25-cent coin pays tribute to figure skating, a sport that combines athletic strength and artistic grace. Issued as part of the extensive commemorative circulation program for the 2010 Games, it has become a prized collector's item, especially when it boasts a conservation grade as high as MS-68.

The Reverse Pattern

The design, created by artist Glenn Green, depicts a figure skater in the middle of a routine. The movement is accentuated by a stylized maple leaf that appears to envelop the athlete. The Vancouver 2010 Games logo, the Inukshuk named Ilanaaq, completes the design. At this grade level, the details of the skate blades and the textures of the maple leaf are rendered with exceptional clarity.

The Obverse

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, created by the Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. The portrait is surrounded by traditional inscriptions, all resting on fields whose luster has remained perfectly intact since minting.

Quality and Grade MS-68 (Superb +)

The MS-68 (Mint State) grade designates a coin of Superb+ quality. It is very rare to find circulating coins in this condition, as they generally acquire contact marks during the manufacturing or shipping process. An MS-68 example is distinguished by:

  • An exceptional striking luster, vivid and without any trace of tarnish.

  • An almost total absence of bag marks or scratches, even under slight magnification.

  • Superior visual appeal, ranking this coin among the elite of 2008 mintings.
