Vancouver Series 2010 — MS-65 (Gem) Quality

Description of the room

This 25-cent coin pays tribute to the grace and discipline of figure skating, an iconic sport in Canadian winter culture. Issued as part of the Royal Canadian Mint's program to promote the Vancouver 2010 Games, this coin is sought after in "Gem" condition by collectors who want a specimen with perfectly defined details.

The Reverse Pattern

The design, created by artist Glenn Green, depicts a figure skater in mid-air. A stylized maple leaf forms the background, uniting sport and national identity, while the official logo of the 2010 Games (the Ilanaaq) is positioned to the skater's right. In MS-65 grade, the contrast between the reliefs and the fields of the coin is striking, highlighting the fineness of the engraving.

The Obverse

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Susanna Blunt in 2003. The portrait, without a crown, is rendered with impeccable clarity, surrounded by the official inscriptions of the sovereign and the face value.

Quality and Grade MS-65 (Gem)

The MS-65 grade designates a coin of Gem quality. For a coin struck with regular circulation dies, this grade means it has been carefully preserved since leaving the press. It is distinguished by:

  • A complete and brilliant original chandelier (Mint Chandelier).

  • Very limited contact marks (bag marks), not distracting the eye from the central motif.

  • A clean, well-centered strike, ensuring that all design elements, from the Olympic logo to the maple leaf textures, are clearly visible.
