2008 Canada: 25 cents Bobsleigh (Vancouver 2010)
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Quality — Grade: MS-63 CHOICE
Coin Description
This commemorative 25-cent coin was issued in 2008 by the Royal Canadian Mint as part of a series celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It pays tribute to bobsleigh, a spectacular winter sport where teams hurtle down ice tracks at high speed. Interestingly, although the coin is dated 2008, its release was delayed, and it was officially launched the following year . With a mintage of approximately 22,000,000 for circulation , this coin is now prized by collectors of the Olympic series. The specimen offered, graded MS-63 Choice, shows remarkable preservation with superior visual appeal.
The Obverse (Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, at 77 years old, uncrowned, wearing a necklace and earrings . In keeping with coins of that era, the obverse is adorned with a maple leaf 🍁 at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legend "CANADA · ELIZABETH II 2008" surrounds the royal bust . For an MS-63 Choice grade, the mint luster is well present, intense and uniform across almost the entire surface, with a beautiful "cartwheel" effect. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.
The Reverse (Bobsleigh Team)
The reverse, designed by Vancouver artist Glen Green (whose initials "GG" appear on the coin) , illustrates all the power and speed of bobsleigh. It depicts a bobsleigh team in action, running to push the bobsleigh at the start . The design is completed by the inscription " VANCOUVER 2010 TM/MC " as well as the denomination " 25 CENTS " . In MS-63 Choice, all details of the athletes, the bobsleigh, and the inscriptions are perfectly sharp and well-struck, with no wear.
