This 25-cent commemorative coin was issued in 2006 by the Royal Canadian Mint to honour recipients of the Medal of Valour . It was officially unveiled at Rideau Hall following a ceremony honoring new recipients of the Cross of Valour, the Star of Courage, and the Medal of Valour. This coin highlights the courage of Canadians who risk their lives to save or protect others. With a mintage of 20,040,000 , it is now sought after by collectors. The Obverse (Effect of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt , an image used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023. The Queen is depicted without her crown, in a clean, contemporary style. The legend "ELIZABETH II 2006 D • G • REGINA" surrounds the royal bust. The Reverse (Medal of Bravery)
The reverse side, designed by the artist Cosme Saffioti This represents the Medal of Bravery, one of three decorations for distinguished acts of courage in Canada. It bears the inscriptions "BRAVERY 2006 BRAVOURE 25 CENTS" as well as the word "CANADA". This understated and elegant design pays tribute to the exceptional courage of the recipients.
