2001-P Canada: 25 Cents Caribou
Quality AU (Almost Uncirculated)
Description of the room
This 25-cent coin from 2001 features the small letter "P" beneath the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This mark identifies the new steel-plated blanks, introduced to replace pure nickel. In AU grade, this coin has seen very little circulation. It retains most of its original luster in the protected areas of the design, while showing slight wear on the highest points.
The Obverse (Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features the effigy of Dora de Pédery-Hunt. The "P" mark is clearly visible below the bust. A slight weakening of the luster can be observed on the Queen's temple and crown, characteristic of the AU grade, but the field retains a fine brilliance.
The Reverse
The traditional Caribou motif by Emanuel Hahn is at the center of the coin. The details of the antlers and the reliefs of the head are still very sharp. Only slight contact marks or a hint of wear on the protruding parts of the animal's body distinguish this coin from an uncirculated example.
