1965 Canada 1 Dollar - Small Pearls & 5 Pointed
80% Silver — PL-66 Quality (Proof-Like)
Description of the room
This coin is a numismatic rarity due to the combination of two distinct characteristics. In 1965, several dies were used, creating various die combinations. The "Little Pearls" version, associated with the pointed "5", is particularly sought after by serious collectors of rare varieties.
The Small Pearls Variety (Obverse)
On the obverse (Queen's side), the pearls forming the circle near the rim are smaller and significantly more spaced out than on the common version. There is also a larger space between these pearls and the rim (the raised edge of the coin).
The 5 Pointed (Reverse)
On the reverse, in the date "1965", the numeral "5" ends in a straight, sharp point facing upwards. On so-called "blunt" (or "blunt") versions, this point is square or rounded. The "Pointed 5" is a common feature alongside the small pearls on high-quality Proof-Like strikes.
Quality and Grade PL-66
The PL-66 (Proof-Like) grade confirms that the coin comes from an original sealed set and was struck with polished dies. At this grade level:
-
The fields are highly reflective (mirror effect).
-
The luster is intense and without any alteration.
-
The contact marks are almost non-existent to the naked eye, preserving the integrity of the reliefs of the canoe and the portrait.
