Obverse (reverse side): Features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. In MS-65 grade, the obverse displays a full and vibrant luster and a very clean surface, consistent with Gem quality.
-
Reverse (front side): The Maple Leaf design is marked by a die defect. A small raised lump of metal (the Die Chip ) can be seen immediately above the micro-punch (circled maple leaf) .
-
The Technical Term: Die Chip occurs when a small portion of the striking die breaks away. Hot metal from the blank fills this cavity, creating a raised spot on the coin. This defect is the technical phenomenon behind your "Maple Cracked By The Die" coin .
