2017 Canada: 25 Cents 150th Anniversary of Confederation - Uncolored Version
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Quality — Grade: MS-63 CHOICE
Coin Description
This commemorative 25-cent coin was issued in 2017 by the Royal Canadian Mint to mark the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation (1867-2017). To celebrate this event, the Mint organized a national competition inviting Canadians to submit designs for 2017 circulation coins, based on five themes: Our Wonders, Our Character, Our Achievements, Our Passions, and Canada's Future.
The winning design for the 25-cent coin is the work of young Joelle Wong. Her creation depicts a turtle, a bird, and a beaver, all adorned with Indigenous motifs, reaching towards a plant growing from a pair of hands. This design symbolizes harmony with nature and the importance of Indigenous cultures in Canadian identity.
A mintage of 20,000,000 copies was released for this standard uncolored version. The offered specimen, graded MS-63 Choice, is in remarkable condition with superior visual appeal.
The Obverse (Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, an effigy used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023. In keeping with coins from this era, the obverse is adorned with the maple leaf at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legend "ELIZABETH II D • G • REGINA" surrounds the royal bust, with the date "2017". For an MS-63 Choice grade, the original mint luster is well present, intense and uniform over almost the entire surface. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.
The Reverse (Turtle, bird, and beaver with Indigenous motifs)
The reverse, designed by young artist Joelle Wong, features a deeply symbolic design: a turtle, a bird, and a beaver, all adorned with Indigenous motifs, reaching towards a plant growing from a pair of hands. This design evokes harmony with nature and the importance of Indigenous cultures in Canadian identity. The inscriptions "CANADA 25 CENTS 1867-2017" complete the reverse. In MS-63 Choice, all details of the animals, Indigenous motifs, and hands are perfectly sharp and well struck, with no wear.
