2015 Canada: 25 cents 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Flag - Color Version
BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) Grade — Grade: MS-63 CHOICE

Coin Description

This commemorative 25-cent coin was issued in 2015 by the Royal Canadian Mint to mark the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag, proudly displaying its iconic red maple leaf since 1965 . The design features 50 children surrounding the Canadian flag, each symbolizing not only the 50 years of the flag but also the future of Canada . It is the work of artist Bonnie Ross, from Nova Scotia . The inscription « 50 years/ans » is engraved in the lower central part of the design . The color version of this coin highlights the vibrant red of the flag's maple leaf, creating a striking contrast with the rest of the design. With a mintage of 6,250,000 copies for this colored version , this coin is now sought after by collectors of Canadian commemorative coins. The offered specimen, graded MS-63 Choice, offers remarkable preservation with superior visual appeal.

The Obverse (Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II)

The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, an effigy used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023. It shows the Queen at 77 years old, uncrowned, wearing a necklace and earrings . The engraving is signed by Susan Taylor . In line with coins of this era, the obverse is adorned with the maple leaf 🍁 at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legend « ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA » surrounds the royal bust . For an MS-63 Choice grade, the original mint luster is well present, intense and uniform over almost the entire surface. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.

The Reverse (50 children and the colored Canadian flag)

The reverse, designed by artist Bonnie Ross (initials "BR" on the coin) , depicts a particularly moving design: 50 stylized children surrounding the Canadian flag. The distinctive feature of this version lies in the application of red color to the maple leaf on the flag, which stands out sharply against the metallic background. This coloring technique was applied using a patented process by the Royal Canadian Mint, ensuring full adhesion of the color to the metal. The inscription « 50 YEARS / ANS » is engraved in the lower central part of the design . The inscriptions « CANADA 2015 » and « 25 CENTS » complete the reverse . In MS-63 Choice, the red color of the flag is perfectly preserved, without flaking or wear, and all the details of the 50 children and the flag are remarkably sharp.

There are two varieties for this coin: the first has normal shading, while the second has darker shading .
