2008 Canada 25 Cents - Figure Skating
Vancouver Series 2010 — MS-64 Quality (Choice +)
Description of the room
This 25-cent coin celebrates the elegance and strength of figure skating, a sport in which Canada has historically excelled on the world stage. Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to generate excitement in the lead-up to the 2010 Games, it is presented here in uncirculated (BU) condition, highlighting its dynamic design.
The Reverse Pattern
The artwork, by artist Glenn Green, depicts a figure skater captured in an athletic and graceful pose. In the background, a stylized maple leaf symbolizes national pride, accompanied by the official logo of the Vancouver 2010 Games, the Inukshuk named Ilanaaq. In its current state of preservation, the details of the figure and the lines of movement are crisp and well-defined.
The Obverse
The obverse features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. This modern, uncrowned portrait is surrounded by the royal legend and the face value. The original luster is clearly visible across the entire surface, indicating that the coin was never used for everyday transactions.
Quality and Grade MS-64 (Choice +)
The MS-64 grade designates a Choice quality piece. The + designation indicates that the item is at the top of its category, offering above-average visual appeal. At this level:
-
The striking luster is original, vivid and attractive.
-
Some light contact marks may be present, but they are discreet and do not detract from the beauty of the main design.
-
The strike is solid, ensuring excellent visibility of the Olympic logo and engraving details.
