This 25-cent commemorative coin was issued on October 24, 2007 by the Royal Canadian Mint It is the fifth in a series of 17 circulation coins celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games . It pays tribute to alpine skiing, an iconic sport of the Winter Games. Up to 22 million copies of this coin have been put into circulation. The Obverse (Effect of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt In keeping with coins of this period, the obverse features the maple leaf 🍁 at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legends "ELIZABETH II" and "CANADA" surround the royal bust, along with the date "2007". For an MS-63 Choice grade , the mint luster is well-developed, intense, and uniform across almost the entire surface, with a pleasing "cartwheel" effect. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.
The Reverse (Alpine Skier)
The reverse, designed by Vancouver artist Glen Green (whose initials "GG" appear on the coin) This image perfectly captures the exhilarating spirit of alpine skiing. It depicts a skier in action , shown head-on during a dynamic descent. The design is completed by a stylized maple leaf and the inscription " VANCOUVER 2010 " along with the value "25 CENTS". In MS-63 Choice , all the details of the skier, his equipment and the maple leaf are perfectly sharp and well struck, without any wear.
