Description of the room
This 25-cent commemorative coin was issued on April 3, 2007 by the Royal Canadian Mint It is the sixth in a series of 17 circulation coins celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, but above all, one of the most popular. It pays tribute to ice hockey , Canada's quintessential national sport. With a mintage of approximately 22,000,000 for circulation, this coin is now extremely sought after by collectors, particularly in this well-preserved condition. The example offered, graded MS-63 Choice , offers a remarkable state of preservation with superior visual appeal.
The Obverse (Effect of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt , an effigy used on Canadian coins from 2003 to 2023. The coin depicts the 77-year-old Queen, without her crown, wearing a necklace and earrings. In keeping with the style of coins from that era, the obverse features the maple leaf ๐ at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The inscription " CANADA ยท ELIZABETH II 2007 " surrounds the royal bust. For an MS-63 Choice grade coin , the striking luster is very present, intense and uniform across almost the entire surface, with a beautiful "cartwheel" effect. Contact marks are minimal and barely visible to the naked eye.
The Backhand (Hockey Player)
The reverse, designed by Vancouver artist Glen Green (whose initials "GG" appear on the coin), illustrates all the intensity and passion of ice hockey. It depicts a hockey player in action , skates on his feet and stick in hand, ready to shoot or handle the puck. The player is shown in front of the silhouette of a stylized maple leaf , the national symbol. The design is completed by the inscription " VANCOUVER 2010 TM/MC " as well as the value " 25 CENTS " . In MS-63 Choice , all the details of the player, his equipment (mask, leg pads, stick), skates and maple leaf are perfectly crisp and well struck, without any wear.
