2007 Canada: 25 cents Biathlon (Vancouver 2010)
BU (Brilliant Out of Circulation) Quality — Grade: MS-64 CHOICE +
Description of the room
This 25-cent commemorative coin was issued on October 24, 2007, by the Royal Canadian Mint. It is the fourth in a series of 17 circulation coins celebrating the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It pays tribute to biathlon, the demanding sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. With a mintage of approximately 22,000,000 for circulation, high-quality examples like this one are particularly sought after by collectors. The example offered, graded MS-64 Choice+ , is in exceptional condition with remarkable visual appeal.
The Obverse (Effect of Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt . In keeping with coins of this period, the obverse is adorned with the maple leaf 🍁 at the bottom, a distinctive mark used since 2007. The legend “CANADA · ELIZABETH II 2007” surrounds the royal bust. For an MS-64 Choice+ grade , the mint luster is brilliant, intense, and perfectly uniform across the entire surface, with a superb “cartwheel” effect. Contact marks are virtually absent to the naked eye; only microscopic imperfections can be detected under magnification, and nothing distracts from the overall aesthetic.
The Backswing (Biathlete)
The reverse, designed by Vancouver artist Glen Green (whose initials "GG" appear on the coin), illustrates the focus and endurance required for biathlon. It depicts a biathlete in action , rifle at the ready, on the shooting range in front of a stylized maple leaf. The design is completed by the inscription " Vancouver 2010 " and the value "25 cents." In MS-64 Choice+ , all the details of the athlete, their rifle, their equipment, and the maple leaf are perfectly sharp, with a full-edge strike. The "Choice+" quality designation indicates a coin that surpasses the average MS-64 in harmonious balance and superior presentation.
