1999 Canada: 25 Cents Caribou
NBU (Numismatic Brilliant Uncirculated) Quality — Grade: PL-66 CHOICE
Description of the room
The 1999 25-cent coin featuring the caribou is a special collector's item: it was not minted for general circulation, which was reserved for the 12 monthly Millennium designs. This particular specimen comes exclusively from the Royal Canadian Mint's non-circulating sets (NBU). Graded PL-66 Choice , this coin has a proof-like finish with highly brilliant fields and a sharper strike than ordinary coins.
The Obverse (Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II)
The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. As a Proof-Like (PL) strike, the field is glossy and the relief of the effigy is perfectly defined, without any signs of circulation.
The Reverse
Emanuel Hahn's famous Caribou makes a remarkable comeback for collectors. The date "1999" is struck with great precision. The contrast between the luster of the fields and the finish of the motif is striking, characteristic of pieces selected for prestige sets.
