Description of the room

This 1978 Canadian 25-cent coin is graded MS-64 (Mint State 64) , placing it in the "CHOICE +" category. This grade represents a high-quality collector's item for a circulation coin of that year. It is free of wear and retains much of its original luster.

The coin features the classic Caribou motif on the reverse and is made of pure nickel (99.9% nickel).

Obverse variety: Small Beads

  • Context: The 1978 vintage saw the use of two distinct obverse dies.

  • Characteristic: The "Small Beads" variety is distinguished by smaller, thinner beads forming the decorative ring around the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. These beads also appear further from the outer rim compared to the "Large Beads" variety.

  • Significance: This variety is one of two recognized for this quarter dollar in 1978.

MS-64 (Mint State 64) quality

The MS-64 grade applies to the condition of the part:

  • Luster: The striking luster is good to excellent , with the majority of the original shine retained.

  • Strike: The strike is crisp and precise . Most of the details of the design are well defined.

  • Imperfections: An MS-64 piece has some moderate contact marks or slight defects (handling scratches), but these are few in number and generally located in less distracting areas , allowing the piece to maintain a very good visual appeal.

The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the Small Beads configuration.
